Everything about the devices used to access your website

What it is all about

Within the devices feature of the statistics module you have 4 sections that deliver you almost all data you need about the devices used by your visitors to visit your website:

  1. Devices overview
  2. Operating systems usage
  3. Browsers usage
  4. Screen size usage

Set the time

Just right above the views within this feature you will always see a bar which enables you to choose a certain time range or even a day for which the data below should correspond to. It is important to constrain the displayment of data to certain dates or periods in which you ran potential campaigns or took other measures in order to measure how successful these actions were for future planning. 

Devices

The first chart of this page gives you a simple yet powerful overview (pie-chart and bar-chart) of the devices used by your visitors to visit your website. Besides a percentage it also presents you the amount of unique visitors per device in the selected period of time. Each bar in the bar-chart represents an device type.

This figure helps you to see whether you should optimize your website for a certain device type, as most of your visitors use it. If you, for instance, observe that most of your visitors are using mobile phones to access your website and you have not optimzed for mobile phones, then you should do so in order to increase the user experience/traffic on your page.

In order to increase clarity of the pie-chart, only a few labels are shown right from the start – as you might have noticed these labels mark the most used devices by your visitors. Of course, you can hover each part of the pie-chart in order to see the distribution of the used device types. 

Important hints:

  • If you move your cursor across a bar, a hover will appear showing you the exact amount of unique visitor using this device type and the percentage of your overall unique visitors visiting with this device type – a "46 %" hence means that 46% of your overall unique visitors have been using this device type.

Operating systems usage

This bar-chart provides you with a list of the operating systems (OS) used by your visitors to browse your website. Each bar represents a different operating system. The horizontal x-axis shows the number of unique visits done with an operating system. The scale of the x-axis is always generated automatically.

This illustration helps you to see whether you should optimize your website for a certain OS, as most of your visitors use it.

Important hints:

  • If you move your cursor across a bar, a hover will appear showing you the exact amount of unique visitor using this OS and the percentage of your overall unique visitors visiting with this OS – a "46 %" hence means that 46% of your overall unique visitors have been using this operating system.
  • At the very bottom of the graph you might find a green icon with the label "See more". Clicking on it, will extend the graph downward displaying yet more OSs that were used to visit your website.

Browser Usage

In this bar-chart you are being presented witha list of the web browsers used by your visitors to browse your website. Each bar represents a different browser type. The horizontal x-axis shows the number of unique visits done with an browser. The scale of the x-axis is always generated automatically.

This figure helps you to see whether you should optimize your website for a certain web browser, as most of your visitors use it.

Screen Size usage

The last bar-chart on this view provides your with a list of the screen sizes used by your visitors to browse your website. Each bar represents a different screen resolution. The horizontal x-axis shows the number of unique visits done with a certain screen resolution. The scale of the x-axis is always generated automatically.

This figure helps you to see whether you should optimize your website for certain screen resolutions, as most of your visitors use it. If you see that a lot of users use a screen resolution that your website is not optimized for, you should change that.
